FLIP™ IT: Trending Convertible with CheekyChicago.com

I love the girls over at CheekyChicago.com, so when cheeky gal Robin Clement asked me about convertible fashions, I was super excited.  The article just posted today and it includes one of my favorite Chicago designers Elise Bergman.  Our Callie Cardigan would be so pretty layered over Elise's Adri Dress available at Elise's shop within at shop at Roslyn Boutique - a match made in heaven!  For summer wear it with your favorite sandals and for fall with tights - we want to give you as many options as possible afterall!  When chilly winter days start, our Victoria Flip Cardigan would be a perfect layering piece.  It's on it's way to Kaight in NYC this Thursday!  To shop the Lara Miller FLIP™ collection visit Kaight, Kingston Ellis, Embodies, Juno and Jove, Compassion Couture, or if you're in Tokyo Burnish. To shop archived collections visit the Lara Miller website.  Feel like playing dress up in person?  We have a bunch of events coming up including our Fall 2011 trunk show October 21st during Fashion Focus Chicago at Florodora, the October 22nd StyleChicago sale at Millennium Park, and our Fall 2011 Trunk Show October 28th and 29th at Kaight in Brooklyn.  Want to see more Wear It Your Way™ styles?  Visit the Lara Miller Vimeo page with images shot by Helen Berkun and video filmed and edited by Billy Rood.

Must Buy Now: Shapes & Colors - Made in Chicago

Love gorgeous prints!?  Who doesn't?  Love Chicago Made?  Earth friendly textiles?  Responsible inks and dyes?  Me too!  But what if you could get gorgeous eco-friendly prints made locally?  Thanks to Shapes & Colors you can!  Finding Samantha Cisnero's work in my DailyCandyChicago this morning was like a burst of sunshine.  Her prints are stunning.  Her website is chalk full of inspiration... and as if that wasn't enough, her blog is a brainstorm binge!  Her etsy shop is simply adorable.  At $12 to $62, her prices are totally reasonable!  Samantha's pieces are also available at the covetable Post 27 in Chicago.  Oh, Windy City, just when I think I can't love you anymore and that there couldn't possibly be more cool things made here, you go ahead and show me things like Shapes & Colors! Thanks!!

Good 'Mornin!

It's a little rainy and gray, which got me thinking about beautiful fall days.  Here are some things that are making me smile this morning!

Fascinating Viruses as Manufacturers

Hello!

I'm a bit under the weather, but I decided that embracing the sick will be the only way that I'll be able to get over this cold... and who better than the BBC to help me do that?

You see, not all viruses are bad, in fact, some may be the key to unlocking the future of green technology and manufacturing!

This video is fascinating!

Rendez-Vous

Inspiration to garment

Hello! On the flight heading to NYC to meet my showroom @Foundfuture at Rendez-Vous Show. Come see us and the Spring 2012 collection, 608 W 28th St between 11th & 12th.
As we wait to take off I thought I'd share how inspiration (the underpass of Randolph St in Chicago) leads to garment (the Dell Mesh Harem Pants in hand-loomed recycled cotton).
See you in NYC!

Matching shoes!

Good Mornin!

I often wake up thinking about Peru and my trip there in 2009.  Especially in the Southern Jungle of Tambopata. This morning I'm dreaming of humid jungle temperatures and candy colored butterflies.

Something tells me I'll be looking at these pastel colored butterflies for spring 2013 inspiration... craziness to already be thinking of spring for next year :  )

In the meantime, I'll be heading out to NYC Market, showing at Rendez-Vous NYC with Ff Foundfuture showroom.  I'll be posting more about my day trip and the trade show... as soon as I get the edits to the linesheets finished up!

Gimme color: makeup inspiration for spring 12

Yummy and gorgeous color that Anthony and Laura got perfectly right! Can't wait to show you their interpretation.

Kelly Osbourne street style

Kelly Osbourne was at Macy's last night for FNO. I think her street style is just adorable! Were you in Chicago last night? Did you get a chance to meet her?

Spring 12 inspiration: Restless Rainbow

Man I have been MIA. Fashion's Night Out has come and gone, but I'm still not even done with posts from last weekend!

I have outfit posts, inspiration posts, and picture posts to come... but I also have almost 1,000 images to go through from the incredibly talented Mr. Grafton. I have to get through them asap so that lookbooks and line sheets can get done all before Rendezvous Trade Show at NYC market, um... next week!! Yikes a Rooney! Yes Mr. Patterson. Oh Ferris Buller, such an iconic Chicago Movie! Which leads to the reason for my post.

The iconic Chicago skyline as seen through Pae White's "Restless Rainbow" installation at the Art Institute of Chicago's Modern Wing. As soon as I saw the installation all of my thoughts on color and light for the spring 12 collection came together. The piece caused a bit of controversy as it significantly altered the space where many summer weddings were to take place, but when I saw it I immediately fell over the rainbow in love! What do you think of the installation? If you're in or have been to Chicago have you had the chance to see it?

Time Capsule

The 13th floor of the historic Marshall Fields building is a gorgeous time capsule full of beautiful, funny, and slightly spooky pieces of history.  Now Macy's on State Street, the floor is cut off from the public, truly making it an untouched gem.  It was an incredible honor to get to shoot the spring summer 12 collection here.  Our model, Valentine Kopjo took some great pictures and posted them on her blog.

Inspiration: Spring Summer 12 Photo Shoot

So... I've mentioned the inspiration for the collection - but here's a little thought on inspiration for the shoot.

Summer to me means getting the chance to celebrate sunshine and water.

Do you remember being little and getting the chance to swim at a public pool?  No? Fine... well, play along with me here for a moment.

The light was super bright, the floor was cold and concrete, the walls were too, everything wreaked of chlorine, and the faster you could wriggle into your swim suit, the faster you could beg to have your camp counselor throw you into the water.  When I was 5, my face hadn't quite grown into my lips yet, so my counselors nicked name me after my favorite rock star Mic Jagger.  Throwing me into the water went hand-in-hand with screaming "JAGGER BOMB!!!"  Even though I was only 5, I felt so cool and grown up.  Not only did I know who Mic Jagger was, but I was representing him.  I wanted to channel that kid/adult summer fantasy at the shoot.

I was going for a super post-modern pool/bath house feel...Think 1940's styling imagined for 2040... and sun!  Plenty of sun!  Bret's lighting echoed that super sunny feeling, the spot we found to shoot at seemed to be transplanted from the hallway of every public pool locker room in America, and I chose to style my pieces with highwaisted grannie panties that felt more like 1940's bathing suits and super bright neon bras that looked like bikini tops.

Everything fell into place in such an incredible way that I still can't stop pinching myself today.

Here are a few more pics.

More inspiration to follow...
