Welcome Back!
I'm sorry I haven't been around much, Fashion Focus Chicago and the lead up to it kept me away from the blog for a bit. It was an amazing week! Do a quick search for "Fashion Focus Chicago 2011" and you'll see all the best of Chicago Fashion!
"Making it Work" is based on the idea that "it" may not be 100% perfect but we can make "it" work!
Finding the beauty, fun, and fashion in imperfections - perfect is boring, quirks and piccadillys are memorable and totally rad!
During all of the craziness last week it began to rain and I snapped one of my most favorite pictures. It's garbage in the street but in its own way it's so very pretty. I would love to make fabric with this print!
My only regret? I was so taken by how pretty the garbage was that I didn't think to pick it up and put it in a trash can later! But it's in my mind and since then I've been cleaning up Chicago's streets when and where I can...doing my best to "make it work"!
Happy Fall!

I <3 Needlepoint
Grandma Inez taught me to needlepoint this summer and I've caught the bug! I've even started making my own canvases!
To thank her I'm needlepointing this thank you note...
Crafts with Grandma Inez make up some of my most special memories.
IC as we like to call her is one of the most 'stylin ladies I know... she also taught me to knit, a skill to which I owe my career!
Do you have any family traditions and crafts that you hope to continue and pass on? I'd love to hear about them!

FLIP™ IT: Trending Convertible with CheekyChicago.com
I love the girls over at CheekyChicago.com, so when cheeky gal Robin Clement asked me about convertible fashions, I was super excited. The article just posted today and it includes one of my favorite Chicago designers Elise Bergman. Our Callie Cardigan would be so pretty layered over Elise's Adri Dress available at Elise's shop within at shop at Roslyn Boutique - a match made in heaven! For summer wear it with your favorite sandals and for fall with tights - we want to give you as many options as possible afterall! When chilly winter days start, our Victoria Flip Cardigan would be a perfect layering piece. It's on it's way to Kaight in NYC this Thursday! To shop the Lara Miller FLIP™ collection visit Kaight, Kingston Ellis, Embodies, Juno and Jove, Compassion Couture, or if you're in Tokyo Burnish. To shop archived collections visit the Lara Miller website. Feel like playing dress up in person? We have a bunch of events coming up including our Fall 2011 trunk show October 21st during Fashion Focus Chicago at Florodora, the October 22nd StyleChicago sale at Millennium Park, and our Fall 2011 Trunk Show October 28th and 29th at Kaight in Brooklyn. Want to see more Wear It Your Way™ styles? Visit the Lara Miller Vimeo page with images shot by Helen Berkun and video filmed and edited by Billy Rood.
Must Buy Now: Shapes & Colors - Made in Chicago
Love gorgeous prints!? Who doesn't? Love Chicago Made? Earth friendly textiles? Responsible inks and dyes? Me too! But what if you could get gorgeous eco-friendly prints made locally? Thanks to Shapes & Colors you can! Finding Samantha Cisnero's work in my DailyCandyChicago this morning was like a burst of sunshine. Her prints are stunning. Her website is chalk full of inspiration... and as if that wasn't enough, her blog is a brainstorm binge! Her etsy shop is simply adorable. At $12 to $62, her prices are totally reasonable! Samantha's pieces are also available at the covetable Post 27 in Chicago. Oh, Windy City, just when I think I can't love you anymore and that there couldn't possibly be more cool things made here, you go ahead and show me things like Shapes & Colors! Thanks!!
Good 'Mornin!
It's a little rainy and gray, which got me thinking about beautiful fall days. Here are some things that are making me smile this morning!

Fascinating Viruses as Manufacturers
Hello!
I'm a bit under the weather, but I decided that embracing the sick will be the only way that I'll be able to get over this cold... and who better than the BBC to help me do that?
You see, not all viruses are bad, in fact, some may be the key to unlocking the future of green technology and manufacturing!
This video is fascinating!
