Ecco Domani

So, the deadline is almost here.

I'm really excited to be applying for it!

Thanks for the ideablob love!

Well...

We didn't win ideablob.

It's true - we were in the running against education and cervical cancer.

Even I, who needed the money more than I could ever begin to explain, felt guilty voting for myself when making the choice between education and cervical cancer.

Yet, somehow you all did it.

You voted for me.

You signed up and you voted. A lot.

I can't thank you enough.

I have to admit, it's been scary. I really thought this was it, I was going under from having too many orders... you know the old adage "too much of a good thing"... well, when you own a small design company where you have to manufacture everything months before you ship to stores and you don't have enough in the bank to make what you have on paper... well... Then you get down on your hands and knees and beg each and every person you know to vote.

I have to thank everyone out there for all of your support.

While I didn't win, I am still here - thanks to accion chicago http://www.accionchicago.org/ and the duman microenterprise loan http://www.jvschicago.org/

No matter what the outcome was, Ideabob is one of the neatest things I've seen in a while.

Thank you for taking part.

what exactly is tapioca?

"At first they are weird. You suck them through an appropriately jumbo straw, along with the cold, sweetened tea. They arrive in your mouth, slick and slightly gelatinous. And then you bite into one, or maybe several, because it is hard to control how many come through the straw. Hmmm. Chewy, but not too chewy--somewhere between a gummy candy and a marshmallow--with a subtle sweetness. Suddenly you want more. Drink as food. Thus begins the addiction." Quote taken from a bubble tea store on ebay, yes they do truly have everything on e-bay.

Dear Tapioca, I know that we are in love, but considering that I am practically a vegan, I've decided I need to know what you are truly made of before we continue with this affair.
Phew.
Thank you Wikipedia.
Thank you.

Yummy Yummy

If you are in Chicago you must order from Yummy Yummy.

The fresh fruit smoothies with tapioca can get you through even the busiest no time to eat day, and when you do have time to eat they offer brown rice to go with your meal!

Fresh fruit smoothies delivered to your door!? It doesn't get any better!

Thank you Yummy Yummy!

I must show UPS some love as well!

While I do prefer DHL for international - UPS is my BFF when it comes to domestic shipping. Our daily pick-up with Mike is always great and the ladies over at the main headquarters on are the best!

Thanks for making me smile UPS!

** FYI ** after writing this post, DHL closed their domestic shipping.

International Shipping!

Just wanted to let everyone know how **happy** DHL makes me.

The staff is so helpful and the rates are affordable as far as international shipping is concerned. That affordability must come from their efficiency because the people on the phone and at the stations are way too nice to be under-paid or over-worked.

Thank you DHL!

Ideablob

Yes, that's right. My first post is a shameless plea for your vote! But, I promise, it's relevant and has quite a lot to do with the impetus for starting this blog - that and my recent obsession with wedding blogs as I also begin to plan my upcoming wedding. But I digress.

Ideablob.

The Idea is my collection.

The Blob?

Financing.

Ah yes, that word. If you have a small business that word is very familiar to you isn't it? Hand in hand with cash flow, it's a powerful little team that can make or break you. For me it seems to do both, daily.

This business has been a roller coaster. This blog is my place to be honest about that.

In the meantime, please vote for me. Please TAKE A CHANCE ON ME - yes insert ABBA here, unless you're not a fan of ABBA and then forget that I ever even mentioned them.

By voting for my business you could help me win $10,000. Seeing as I'm in the middle of production and trying to get my spring 09 samples done (the reason why they're not yet is a whole other long blog post), again I digress, basically what I'm trying to say is please, please, cast your vote and pass on the word.

More posts to follow... about why I need ideablob, how you other designers can find some of the financing that I've used so far, why my samples for spring 09 are on the brink of completion, and how I got myself into this whole mess in the first place!
